Collaboration with National Farmers Federation and NSW Irrigators Council during the Restoring our Rivers Bill legislative reforms amending the Murray Darling Basin Plan delivered a united voice for irrigators around the Basin. Coordination of messages and pressure on decision-makers helped to secure the extension of timeframes for supply and constraints projects in the Southern Murray Darling Basin, the inclusion of community support funding of $300 million and the requirement for the Federal Water Minister to consider socio-economic implications of direct purchases.
The NSW Irrigators’ Council (NSWIC) is the peak body representing irrigators and irrigation communities in NSW. NSWIC has member organisations in every Murray-Darling Basin valley of NSW, and several coastal valleys, representing over 12,000 water access licence holders.
The National Farmers’ Federation (NFF) is the peak national body representing farmers and, more broadly, agriculture across Australia. It is one of Australia’s foremost and respected advocacy organisations.
The NFF is a leader in the identification, development and achievement of policy outcomes – championing issues affecting farmers and dedicated to the advancement of agriculture.
Irrigation Australia represents a cross-section of the irrigation industry including water users, consultants, designers and installers through to educational institutions, government, manufacturers and retailers. It is a Registered Training Organisation and is also the Australian representative body of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID).
