Retirement Of Mdba Chief Executive Phillip Glyde

National Irrigators’ Council (NIC) acknowledges and thanks Phillip Glyde for his service as Chief Executive of the Murray-Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) over the past six years, following the announcement of his intention to retire.

NIC Chief Executive Officer Isaac Jeffrey said: “The Council thanks Phillip Glyde for his service to the very challenging water reform process and his role in leading the Authority, including during periods of extended drought.

“Water policy and river management are complex, and everyone has an opinion. Under Phillip’s leadership, Basin stakeholders have seen an increase in communications and engagement, and a concerted effort to both inform and listen. NIC acknowledges and welcomes this enhanced consultation and looks forward to it continuing under the new CEO.

“Phillip has led the move to decentralise MDBA operations which has embedded staff in local communities to help strengthen the Authority’s capacity to understand issues at a local level and to engage local farmers in decision making processes and consultation.

“Phillip completes his distinguished career as part of the Australian Public Service in roles across agencies from the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES), Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and the Departments of Agriculture to Prime Minister and Cabinet, Environment, and Resources and Energy, as well as international roles.

“We extend Phillip our best wishes for his retirement and hope he enjoys spending more time with family and friends. All the best for the future Phillip.”

The Minister for Resources and Water, Hon. Keith Pitt MP, has announced the recruitment process to appoint a new CEO has commenced.

“NIC encourages the Minister and selection panel to consider the need for enhanced consultation and a deep understanding of the diverse stakeholders of the Basin in potential candidates, especially in the lead up to the Basin Plan review,” Mr Jeffrey said.

“We look forward to the announcement of a new CEO in coming weeks.

“NIC would also like to take the opportunity to urge Basin Ministers to finalise appointments to the MDBA Board. Two vacancies still remain on the Board and it is important for appropriate governance and leadership of MDBA to fill these long overdue appointments as soon as possible.”

Ends.
