Irrigated agricultural is essential to Australian’s and many around the world producing food such as milk, fruit, vegetables, rice, grains,
sugar, nuts, meat and other commodities such as cotton and wine.
Australian irrigators help feed and clothe our nation, our neighbours and friends around the world through international trade.
The total gross value of irrigated agricultural production in Australia in 2017-18 was $17.7 billion although this varies with water
availability such as in drought. The gross value of irrigation production for the Murray Darling Basin region valued at
approximately third of the national value.

irrigators are recognised as the most water efficient in the world, growing more crop per drop than many of our international counterparts.
100% of Australia's rice is irrigated, and is world leading using 50% less than the global average [DAFF].
85% of Australia's cotton crop on average is irrigated, the cotton industry has increased its water use efficiency by 240% since the first crop in the 1970's [DAFF]
